Surname of Person: John Bowes (Boes)
Time Period:
Query

Researching: parentage of John Bowes (Boes) who married great grandmother Mary Ann (Nancy) Harper 1811-1895). This was second marriage and it took place in Bathurst on Feb. 27, 1850. Their son, Jown Bowes, was born June 20, 1850 at Harper’s Corners. He was baptised Feb. 4, 1853 shown in St John’s Catholic records 1823-1899.

John Bowes, the father, disappeared shortly after and was rarely spoken of by anyone in the family. I was told he came from the 9th line of Bathurst but have not been able to verify this. Perhaps religious differences caused problem? Nancy Harper was Baptist and perhaps he was Catholic? Would love to hear from anyone who has any info.
